Till 1985, Bangalore was just a big and beautiful city. It didn’t yet get the honorific of The Silicon Valley of India because I remember, when Amitabh Bacchan was admitted to a hospital in Bangalore in 1982 following a mishap in which Puneet Issar’s punch jeopardised his life during the shooting of ‘Coolie’, he had to be shifted to Bombay because at that time, Bangalore didn’t have any ultra-modern hospital or nursing home!
But today, the scenario is completely transformed, thanks to IT proliferation. It’s now India’s FIFTH full-fledged metro after Delhi, Calcutta, Bombay and Madras. Hyderabad and Ahmedabad come after Bangalore. Such a quantum leap this city has taken in last quarter of a century that the word BANGALORED has found a place in urban dictionary.
Bangalore, Poona, Gurgaon and Noida frog-leaped in recent years to become prominent names on IT canvas. Bangalore spearheads the list because of its ideal infrastructure and facilities. The climate is benign. The people are nice and IT companies are galore. Food is still good despite a distinct South India touch. In other words, you get Maggie in Bangalore with a South-Indian tadka and a spoonful of sambar! Jokes aside, Bangalore is a cosmopolitan and is dotted with all IT big, small and medium names. City is full of young IT professionals who’ve lent a fashionable and different dimension to urban India.
It’s a home to many celebrities like Late Feroz Khan, Sanjay Khan, Prakash Padukone, his daughter Deepika Padukone, Waheeda Rahman’s farmhouse, Mahmood’s villa etc.
The city has all world-class features and facilities. Bangalore’s exponential growth in IT sector has catapulted India on the global tech map.
Though the city is now called Bengaluru as well and Bangalore Pin Code is 560001 also gets a passing reference, Bangalore has achieved a lot in recent years and the western world, esp. the IT sector, calls it a haven and also heaven for the IT professionals.
Not only IT, Bangalore has always had a centre of higher education and many renowned academic Institutes make the city proud. One of the best MBA education institutes is in Bangalore.
The city has taken big strides in science and technology. Many MNCs have their headquarters in Bangalore. It’s indeed India’s top-notch city on many counts.
India Today carried a complete issue based on growing and emerging Bangalore in 1983 and predicted that it’d be the Millennium City in next two decades. It indeed has become a millennium as well as a Silicon Valley City.
